Unruly children behavior at school

Monday Musing Confession journal diary

Today’s Monday Musing is going to take a little turn.  Over the last week, new videos have been coming across my FYP where current teachers are venting about how bad this current generation of children are in the class room. Some things they bring to light are: kids blatant disrespect for their teacher, not listening, doing whatever they want and requesting to listen to some very inappropriate music for their age.  Normally, I wouldn’t think twice of this type of PSA, however with having my own little baby and wanting to make sure I’m raising a good person, this really caught my attention. And my MIL is a retired teacher who still finds herself subbing from time to time, she has shared the same sentiment as these teachers.

Now its interesting the thought process behind why this is happening.  The theory is that we millennials are essentially overcompensating for how we were raised by boomers and Gen X.  A lot of parenting embodied fear tactics and because I said so reasoning.  In order to battle this, a lot of millennial parents have approached the gentle parenting approach where they reason with their kids.  The danger in doing that is now blurring the lines between parent/child and you are now entering into a friendship territory which isn’t healthy.  These kids don’t understand authority and feel entitled to do as they want because parents are not setting boundaries.

I have to admit that ever since we found out we were expecting a baby, I have thought so much on what type of parent I want to be for my kid.  I wanted to raise her differently, stray away from that lead by fear mentality and instead lean into the lead by love approach.  But now I can’t help but wonder if that is the right move because of all that information coming out.  I can see where these teachers are coming from. I don think I’m going to go and change my entire approach but this is something that I think I will have in the back of my mind.  But its something I want to continue to follow and see what new research comes out regarding this topic.

Have you seen or heard what these new teachers are saying?  Feel free to weigh in with your thoughts in the comments.  Thanks for reading.  Cheers!!!
